Mid-Season Recap

The first half of the 2018-2019 Water Rat Short Course Season has been an excellent one.  Overall, the team has been swimming fast with many personal bests.

Some notable performances were Ella Gussen’s 100 yard back swim at the GRYM meet in October and Parker Lenoce’s 200 yard freestyle swim at the Freestyle Frenzy in November..  Ella broke the 9/10 Girls 100 yard Back record held by Lilly Kernaghan since 2013 in a time of 1:08.16.  Parker broke the 13/14 Boys 200 yard Free record held by Andrew Grinalds since 2006 in a time of 1:50.03.

This past weekend 2 seniors represented the Water Rats at the prestigous 2018 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals Greensboro, NC. They included Esme Hunter and Marissa Healy. The meet ran from December 5 – 8. At the meet, Esme broke Meghan Fenn’s 22 year old 15/18 Girls’ record in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:03.71.

While Esme and Marissa were in Greensboro, 50 senior and age group swimmers attended the NSSC-MIT Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts from December 6-9, 2018. Our swimmers had a great showing.  Parker Lenoce broke his own 200 yard Free record in a time of 1:46.21. Kate Murray broke Kelly Walsh’s 27 year old 11/12 Girls’ record in the 100 yard Free in a time of 55.50 and her own 50 Free record in a time of 25.26. Finally Claire Kehley broke her own 13/14 Girls 1000 record in a time of 10:18.70.

We end the first part of the 2018-2019 Short Course Season with our very own Blue vs. Red Intra-squad meet on Saturday, December 15th.  All swimmers should be on deck at 9:45 a.m.  The meet begins at 10:00 a.m. and is open to all swimmers and their families. So come join the fun and maybe even participate in the parent/child relays! The Parents Club on the observation deck following the meet will provide hot chocolate and other goodies.

Congratulations to all Water Rat Swimmers for some great swimming!

GO WRATS!
