Barbara Wiederecht Receives USA Swimming Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award
Barbara Wiederecht Honored with the USA Swimming Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award
On November 6, 2017, at the CSI Annual Banquet, Barbara Wiederecht,, a former Water Rat parent, received the USA Swimming Phillips 66 Outstanding Service Award.
The Outstanding Service Award was established in 1981 to recognize volunteers for their invaluable contribution to USA Swimming. The award, sponsored by Phillips 66, is presented annually to an honoree named by each of the 59 Local Swimming Committees (LSC). Barbara has been a USA Swimming official since 2000 when her two children were swimming on the Water Rat Swim Team and has served as a referee for the past 10 years She currently assists the Officials Chair by tracking officials’ certifications and by maintaining USA Swimming’s Officials Tracking System (OTS) database for CSI officials. Often on weekends you will find Barbara on the pool deck officiating a meet.
Barbara’s love of officiating is shared by many Water Rat parents. They enjoy it because officiating allows you to learn more about swimming while being able to see your child swim from the pool deck. You also earn a good amount of your volunteer points when officiating at a swim meet and get some decent food while on deck as well. So if you have an interest in learning more about the ins and outs of swimming, please consider joining a long line of Water Rat Parents, like Barbara, who have and still continue to officiate meets.
For more infomation about becoming an official, please contact our Officials Co-Coordinators, Tracy Keblish and John Wang. They would love to hear from you!
