Grinalds, Begg and Murray Break Longstanding Team Records
The Connecticut Championship season ended last night and what a great season it has been for the Water Rats. Here are some of the highlights:
- At Regionals, we had so many personal bests they are just too many to list.
- At Seniors, Sarah Grinalds broke the 18 year old team record for 15-18 year old girls in the 1000 yard Freestyle made by Emily Claire Fenn in a time of 9:58.90. Sarah and her teammates Katie Thornton, Willow Woods and Simona Visinski also got the new CT Record in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:35.22.
- At Age Groups, Caroline Begg broke the 36 year old 11/12 Girls 500 yard Freestyle team record of Tracy Green’s in a time of 5:18.78. Kate Murray also broke several longstanding WRAT team records for the 9-10 year old girls, including Laura Sheppard’s 27 year old record in the 50 yard Freestyle in a time of 27.14, Jennifer Kavanagh’s 25 year old record in the 100 yard Freestyle in a time of 1:00.54, and Marissa Healy’s 5 year old record in the 50 yard fly in a time of 29.08.
Caroline and Kate along with Annam Olasewere will now have the opportunity to represent the Water Rats and the State of Connecticut and compete at the Eastern Zone All Star Meet in Webster, NY from March 30-April 1, 2017. Sarah and 14 other Y Nationals Qualifiers will similarly represent the Water Rats and compete at the Short Course YMCA Nationals in Greensboro, NC from April 3-7, 2017. In addition to Sarah, the following swimmers have qualified for Y Nationals so far: Nico Ortega, Dashiell Hunter, Jack Gray, Sean Paul Stolarski, Richard Nolan, John McNab, Jake Ritz, Jacob West, Michelle Kennedy, Katie Thornton, Simona Visiniski, Willow Woods, Kay Begg, and MacKenzie Healy.
Congratulations to all the WRAT swimmers who swam at the CT Championships and good luck to those who will be attending Zones and Y Nationals.
