2017-2018 Short Course Mid-Season Recap
The first half of the 2017-2018 Water Rat Short Course Season has been an excellent one. Overall, the team has been swimming fast with many personal bests.
Some notable performances were Matthew Torres making the ParaOlympic Team USA Team B with his 500 Free swim at the IMX in October. In November, at the New Haven Qualifier, Parker Lenoce broke Daniel Williams’ eight-year old record in the 11/12 boys 400IM in a time of 4:46.32.
This past weekend 6 seniors represented the Water Rats at the prestigous 2017 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals East in Knoxville, Tennesee. They included Sarah Grinalds, Dashiell Hunter, Nicholas Ortega, Esme Hunter, Jack Gray, and Marrissa Healy. The meet ran from December 6 – 9.
At around the same time as Juniors, from December 7-10, 38 senior and age group swimmers attended the NSSC-MIT Invitational in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our swimmers had a great showing. Emmet Adams broke Dashiell Hunter’s 13/14 boys 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:13.82. Parker Lenoce broke Frisk Driscoll’s seventeen-year old record in the 11/12 boys 100 Back in a time of 58.33. Parker also had several first place finishes at the meet, as did Annam Olasewere. Both were the individual high point scorers for their respective age groups. Parker was the top overall scorer for the entire meet. And, several senior swimmers made Y National cuts at the meet, including Austin Twiss, Emmett Adams, Josiah Tarrant, and Scott Adler.
We end the first part of the 2017-2018 Short Course Season with our very own Blue vs. Red Intra-squad meet on Saturday, December 16th. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m. and is open to all swimmers and their families. So come join the fun and maybe even participate in the parent/child relays! The Parents Club on the observation deck following the meet will provide hot chocolate and other goodies.
Congratulations to all Water Rat Swimmers for some great swimming!
GO WRATS!
