The Water Rat Masters team recently returned from a very successful outing at YMCA Masters Nationals held in Sarasota, Florida April 14 – 17. Drawing on the strength of a very deep women’s team, WRAT Masters came away with a 3rd place Team Combined finish, while the Women’s team were the Runner-Up in their division.

WRAT Alum Erin Condon scored 81 points and led all WRAT Masters, winning the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1650 free, the 100 and 200 back and the 200 and 400 IM. WRAT Men’s team high point winner was WRAT parent Jeff Sargent, who scored 72 points and came away with wins in the 1650 free, 200 & 400 IM, 50 & 100 back, while grabbing second in the 200 free, 100 IM and 200 Back. Fellow WRAT parent, Sheila Stolarski, came away with victories in the 50 free and 200 Back and silvers in the 50 back and 200 free while WRAT coach Kristen Finnegan swam away with medals in the 200 free, 50 fly and 50 breast. It should be noted that our WRAT Masters women dominated in the 25 – 29 age group, sweeping several events, including taking 1-2-3-4 in the 50 breast. Long time WRAT affiliate and Staples girls coach Mike Laux also had a very good meet, placing in multiple events across all strokes and distances. Also among the team’s top scorers was WRAT Alum Cheryl Kupan, adding 51 points as a participant on several winning relays. Her best individual finish was 3rd in the 100 breast.
